The short version
- The setup fee and the first month are paid up front. After that, the monthly fee is charged automatically each month.
- Starter and Business start with a 12-month initial term. Cancelling during it doesn't remove the remaining monthly payments.
- After the initial term it continues month to month. Cancel any time with 14 days before your next billing date.
- You own your content, brand and domain. After the initial term is paid, ask for a handover and we give you your site's files and the code written for it.
The plans
There are two ways to pay for a website: a one-time project price (see Pricing), or a monthly subscription that spreads the cost over time. These terms cover the subscription and the separate monthly maintenance plans. All prices are in US dollars.
- Starter subscription
- $99 setup fee, then $49 a month. 12-month initial term. Builds a Starter website.
- Business subscription
- $199 setup fee, then $99 a month. 12-month initial term. Builds a Professional Business website.
- Premium subscription
- Setup fee and term agreed in your written quote, then $199+ a month. Builds a Premium website. See “Premium”.
- Maintenance plans
- Essential $29, Business $59 or Premium $119 a month. Month-to-month, no initial term.
What a subscription includes
A subscription includes the design and build of the website tier it is named after, with the same scope and the same number of revision rounds as the one-time package, and hosting for as long as the subscription is active.
- Starter builds the Starter Website package. Business builds the Professional Business Website package.
- Not included: a maintenance plan (backups, security updates, content updates), which is separate and optional, and costs paid to others, such as domain registration or paid third-party tools. Anything outside the agreed scope is quoted and approved by you in writing before it is done.
What you pay and when
The setup fee is paid up front, together with the first month, when you start the subscription. After that the monthly fee is charged automatically to the same card on the same day each month until the subscription ends. Monthly charges recur: they continue until the subscription is cancelled as described below.
- Starter
- $148 at signup ($99 setup + $49 month 1), then $49 × 11 months. Total over the 12-month initial term: $687.
- Business
- $298 at signup ($199 setup + $99 month 1), then $99 × 11 months. Total over the 12-month initial term: $1,387.
Payments are taken securely by Stripe; we never see your card number. Prices don't include sales tax or similar charges, if any apply. Every payment is recorded, and we can send you a receipt for any of them on request.
The 12-month initial term
Starter and Business subscriptions begin with an initial term of 12 months, starting on the day you pay. You agree to pay the monthly fee for each of those 12 months.
If you cancel during the initial term, the monthly payments for the rest of the term remain due, and your site stays live until the term ends. If you cancel before work on your website has started, the Refund & Cancellation Policy applies instead: payments for work not yet performed may be refunded, and no further monthly payments are due.
Renewal after the initial term
When the initial term ends, the subscription continues month to month at the same monthly fee, with no new setup fee and no new commitment, until you cancel.
We may change the monthly fee for the months after the initial term by giving you at least 30 days' written notice. If you don't want the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.
How to cancel
Tell us in your project chat, by phone, by email or through the contact form. We confirm your cancellation in writing.
- After the initial term: you can cancel at any time. Cancel at least 14 days before your next billing date to stop that charge; otherwise the next month is charged. The subscription ends at the end of the month you have paid for, and we don't refund part of a month.
- During the initial term: see “The 12-month initial term”. The remaining payments stay due.
- Maintenance plans: cancel at any time, on the same 14-day basis.
Who owns the website
- You always own
- Your content (text, photos, video and logos), your brand and business name, your domain name and your customers' information.
- We own
- The reusable code, design systems, templates and tools we use to build websites. While your subscription is active we host your website and you may use it for your business.
- Handover
- Once the initial term has been paid in full, or at any time after, you can ask for a handover. Within 30 days we give you your website's files and help you move it to hosting of your own, at no extra charge.
With the handover, we assign you the code written specifically for your website. Open-source and third-party parts stay under their own licences, and our reusable tools stay ours, licensed to you for use with your website.
If you ask for a handover during the initial term, it takes place once the remaining monthly payments of the term have been paid. If your subscription ends and you haven't asked for a handover, your site goes offline at the end of the paid month and we keep a backup for 30 days, so you can still ask for your files in that time.
Failed payments
If a payment fails we try the card again automatically and email you. If it isn't put right within 7 days we may pause your website until the payment is made. If a payment stays unpaid for 30 days after it was due we may cancel the subscription; any remaining monthly payments of the initial term stay due.
Maintenance plans
Maintenance plans are separate from the subscription and can be added to a one-time website or a subscription. They are month to month, with no initial term.
- Essential · $29/month
- Basic maintenance, Backups, Security updates, Minor fixes.
- Business · $59/month
- Everything in Essential. Up to 1 hour of content updates each month.
- Premium · $119/month
- Everything in Business. Up to 3 hours of updates each month. Monthly performance review.
Included hours don't roll over to the next month. Work beyond your plan is quoted and approved by you in writing before it is done.
Other terms
These terms work together with our Refund & Cancellation Policy, Project Terms & Payments and Terms of Use. Nothing here limits the rights you have under applicable consumer protection laws.
If we change these terms, the new terms apply to subscriptions started after the change. A subscription keeps the terms you accepted when you started it, shown on your receipt as a version date.
